About Christchurch Meadows

Christchurch Meadows is a large riverside green space on the north bank of the Thames in Caversham, stretching from Caversham Bridge to Reading Bridge. The close-cut grass meadow is one of a series of riverside open spaces managed by Reading Borough Council. At its eastern end is a fenced children's play area alongside a paddling and boating pool and picnic tables, making it a popular family destination in warmer months. The paddling pool is seasonal, typically opening in late May and running through the summer until early September, and is operated on the council's behalf by GLL. The wider meadow offers fishing, tennis, football pitches and cycling, with a metalled cycleway running along the riverbank that is lit in the evenings. Specimen trees and Lombardy poplars line the boundaries, and there are moorings for river users. With plenty of flat grass for picnics and games, riverside walks and the summer paddling pool, Christchurch Meadows is a favourite spot for Caversham families. Parking is available nearby and the park is free to enter.
