About Woodthorpe Grange Park

Woodthorpe Grange Park is a Green Flag award-winning public park in Sherwood, on the northern side of Nottingham, and one of the city's largest parks. The grounds were once forested grazing land; Woodthorpe Grange, a Grade II listed mansion, was built in 1874 as the home of industrialist Henry Ashwell. Nottingham City Council bought the estate in 1921 and opened it to the public the following year, and the council still manages the park today. It combines open parkland with some unusual features, including a tropical plant house, a working plant nursery and formal landscaped gardens with a restored sunken garden. For families there is a children's play area, while sporting facilities include football pitches and a pitch and putt course. A cafe with toilets and baby changing facilities sits within the park, and there is free parking at the entrances. With its gardens, glasshouse, play area and sweeping views across the city, Woodthorpe Grange Park makes an easy, varied visit for all ages, and hosts regular events through the year.
