About Wollaton Park
Wollaton Park is one of Nottingham's best-loved green spaces, a 500-acre Grade II listed park wrapped around the Elizabethan Wollaton Hall on the west side of the city. The land was first enclosed by the Willoughby family in the late 15th century, and the hall was completed in 1588; the surrounding parkland was walled in red brick around 1710. Nottingham City Council acquired the estate in 1925 and opened it to the public in 1926, and it has been a free park ever since. Today the council manages the park, which is famous for its herds of red and fallow deer that roam freely across the grassland. For families the main draw is the children's play area near the main entrance, with a second play area along the route from Lime Tree Avenue. Beyond the play areas there is a lake, formal gardens, extensive woodland and parkland walks, a cafe and the hall itself, which houses the city's Natural History Museum, with an Industrial Museum in the former stable block. It is a spacious, varied setting that easily fills a full family day out.
