About Victoria Park

Victoria Park is a Green Flag award-winning green space on the edge of Nottingham city centre, on Bath Street in the Sneinton direction, and is managed by Nottingham City Council. The park has a long history: it was formally opened by the Mayor of Nottingham, Alderman Frederick Pullman, on 7 May 1894, replacing an old and run-down Bath Street playground with tastefully laid out walks, grass lawns, shrubberies and provision for children's recreation, including swings. At the time it served a densely populated district of back-to-back housing nearby. Today, together with the adjoining St Mary's Rest Garden, it offers a welcome pocket of greenery close to the city, and has benefited from ongoing improvements to its play areas, toilets, footpaths and sports provision. Families use the children's play area reached from the Bath Street entrance, while older children and teenagers can use the football and basketball facilities. With its lawns, mature planting and city-centre location, Victoria Park is an easy green stop for anyone close to central Nottingham, within walking distance of the Victoria Leisure Centre.
