About Newburn Riverside Country Park (Tyne Riverside)
Newburn Riverside Country Park, part of the Tyne Riverside Country Park, lies on the north bank of the River Tyne near Newburn and is managed by Newcastle City Council. The park occupies land reclaimed from the former Isabella Colliery and is a popular family destination. For children there is a large play area with swings, slides and climbing units, arranged as separate toddler and older children's areas overlooking the Tyne, alongside outdoor fitness equipment. The site is well set up for a full day out, with several free, well-signposted car parks, riverside cafés serving food and hot drinks, and public toilets available during café opening hours. Much of the park is flat with surfaced paths, so access for wheelchair users and pushchairs is quite good. Beyond the play areas there are miles of footpaths and bridleways for walking and cycling, a boat slipway on the river and a connection to the riverside trail and Hadrian's Way. The council has earmarked Newburn Riverside as one of its enhanced, accessible play sites for investment by summer 2027. The park is free to enter and is dog-friendly, with a dog-friendly riverside coffee shop on site.
