About Debdale Park
Debdale Park covers around 45 acres in Gorton and is one of Manchester's largest inner-city parks. Its two reservoirs date from the 19th century: land was acquired in the 1820s by the Manchester and Salford Waterworks Company, the Corporation of Manchester bought the site in 1851, and the reservoirs — expanded in 1874–75 — supplied local water until 1963. The recreational park was laid out after the First World War. Families get toddler and junior playgrounds with slides, climbing frames, swings and roundabouts, plus a skate park and a multi-use games area, while the adjacent Debdale Outdoor Centre runs dinghy sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking on the water (junior sessions for ages 7–17). Coffee in the Park opened alongside the Debdale Nature Centre in 2021.
