About Stockwood Park
Stockwood Park is a large district park covering around 100 hectares at the southern edge of Luton, bordered by London Road and Farley Hill, and is free to enter. It became council-owned public parkland in 1945 and is an important green space for the Farley and South wards. The park is home to the Stockwood Discovery Centre, which opened in 2008 and tells the story of local history and collections, as well as being a designated County Wildlife Site with historic features across the grounds. Families can use the children's play area, which sits to the rear of the Stockwood Athletics Centre and Performance Gym with access from Farley Hill Road. Around the play equipment the surface is soft rubberised paving, and there are several benches within the play area for carers. Beyond play, Stockwood offers a wide range of sport and recreation, including an 18-hole municipal golf course, an athletics centre, a rugby club, a football pavilion and pitches, riding stables and allotments, alongside large areas for informal recreation and walking. The combination of a discovery centre, extensive sports facilities, wildlife interest and open parkland makes Stockwood Park one of Luton's most versatile green spaces for a family visit.
