About Alvaston Park

Alvaston Park is a free, 85-acre riverside park off London Road in Alvaston, south of Derby city centre, opened in 1913 and managed by Derby City Council. It is one of Derby's Green Flag Award parks and a strong choice for families thanks to its large, inclusive play area. The space-themed PlayZone includes multi-play units, swings, a Titan circular group swing with five seats, an inclusive seesaw, a wheelchair-accessible roundabout and trampoline, a zip wire, a moon buggy, a sand pit and interactive play panels, so children of different ages and abilities can play together. Beyond the playground there is a BMX track and an Adizone outdoor gym, plus tennis courts, grass football pitches and changing rooms. The Waterside Cafe overlooks the water and is open daily with slightly longer weekend hours. The play areas, pavilion and cafe are all wheelchair accessible, with accessible toilets available via a radar key and level paths around the park. Free parking is available at the Community Centre off Meadow Lane, and the park sits beside a lake and the River Derwent with pleasant walks.
