About Gosford Green

Gosford Green is a historic open green at the junction of Binley Road and Walsgrave Road, close to Coventry city centre, and is a free, public space managed by Coventry City Council. Laid out as a grassed area with specimen trees, it has long been a focal point for the surrounding neighbourhoods and carries real history: during the Second World War a large trench shelter stood at its centre, and in 1940 a direct hit on the shelter entrance caused significant loss of life, now remembered on the site. Its children's play area was given a substantial revamp and offers a varied range of equipment for different ages, including a mound slide, a jungle swing, climbing boulders, a Saturn whizzer, see-saws, climbing nets and spinning equipment, with benches nearby for carers to rest. A 600m trail on footpaths with distance markers encourages walking and jogging around the green. Open from dawn to dusk and close to the city centre, Gosford Green combines heritage, open grass and a genuinely modern play area for families in the Stoke and St Michael's area.
