About Prince of Wales Park

Prince of Wales Park has been at the heart of Bingley since it opened in 1865. Work began on 10 March 1863, the wedding day of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), and the park was named in his honour. Set on a wooded hillside, it offers a mix of gentle trails and steeper rambles through species-rich woodland, with heathland, grassland and water features fed by natural springs across roughly 7.3 hectares; the site is designated a local wildlife site. The children's play area sits in the lower part of the park near Lady Lane, and a recently created Lady Lane entrance gives direct access to it. There is also a climbing frame at the top of the park, where trees and rocks give children plenty of natural play too. The park contains several heritage features, including a Grade II-listed park lodge built in 1885, the Temperance Drinking Fountain of 1866, a commemorative plinth to the poet John Nicholson and street art on a former electrical substation. Outdoor fitness equipment and picnic tables are provided, and the Friends of Prince of Wales Park organise seasonal events. The park is open 24 hours a day, all year round, and is free to use.
