About Selly Oak Park
Selly Oak Park consists of more than 30 acres of former medieval deer park and is the largest public open space in the Selly Oak district of Birmingham. It was established in 1899 on land given by Thomas Gibbins and his wife Emma, and was the first park developed under the former Kings Norton and Northfield Urban District Council before coming under Birmingham City Council administration by 1911. Today it is managed by Birmingham City Council. For children there is a playground, plus a unique nature trail combining information points, sculptures and play features. The wider park has a football pitch, outdoor gym equipment, a 2km walking route and accessible paths. The annual Selly Oak Festival is held here every summer, combining a barbecue with circus events, donkey rides, crafts and games. Parking is available at the Scout Hut on the edge of the park next to Gibbins Road. Bus routes 11, 76 and 84 stop on Harborne Lane, and Selly Oak rail station is about half a mile away.
