About Lamont Farm Project
Lamont Farm Project is a volunteer-run animal welfare and rescue centre at Erskine, just outside Glasgow, and claims to be Scotland's first city farm, founded in 1977 and open to the public since 1979. Run as a registered charity, around 95% of its animals are rescued, and visitors are free to wander round and meet a wide variety of them, including pigs, sheep, goats, horses, ponies, donkeys, llamas, ducks and ferrets, with indoor areas housing rabbits, friendly cats and a small reptile enclosure with snakes, iguanas and terrapins. Entry is free, with the farm relying on donations through honesty collection boxes at the gate and tearoom to feed the animals and keep running, so visitors are encouraged to give what they can. There is a tearoom on site, on-site parking (sat nav users are advised to use postcode PA8 6BU), and the farm is open year-round with longer hours from April to October and shorter daily winter hours. It is a friendly, low-key day out ideal for toddlers and young children who enjoy seeing and getting close to animals.
