About Springfield Park Playground
Springfield Park is a scenic 14.73-hectare (36.4-acre) park in Upper Clapton, in the London Borough of Hackney, which opened to the public in 1905 from the grounds of three former private houses. The park slopes down from Stamford Hill towards the River Lea towpath, offering wide views over Walthamstow Marshes towards Walthamstow and Epping Forest. It is managed by Hackney Council and has held a Green Flag award. Families will find two children's play areas here, set among ornamental gardens with a large pond and fountains, a bandstand and a community orchard containing local apple varieties. The park is designated a local nature reserve, and the neighbouring Spring Hill Recreation Ground extends the open space to the north. Sports facilities include tennis courts, a bowling green and grounds for rugby and cricket on the flat area near the river. The café operates from Springfield House, a surviving Georgian mansion sometimes known locally as the White Lodge. Its riverside setting makes it a popular starting point for walks along the Lea.
