About Queen's Park

Queen's Park is Chesterfield's best-known green space, laid out for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and opened to the public in 1893. Set close to the town centre off Boythorpe Road, the park combines formal Victorian landscaping with family facilities and remains free to enter all year round. Children have a choice of play areas, with provision for younger toddlers as well as equipment aimed at older children, and the park is well known for its seasonal miniature railway that runs around the grounds. Wider attractions include a boating lake with ducks and geese, an ornamental bandstand, a conservatory and a cricket ground that is home to Chesterfield Cricket Club. The North Lodge Cafe provides refreshments and there are public toilets on site. Paths throughout are well maintained and described as both wheelchair and pushchair friendly, making it easy to explore with a buggy. The adjoining Queen's Park Sports Centre offers further leisure facilities. Managed by Chesterfield Borough Council, the park is a popular spot for family days out, picnics and gentle walks.
