About Shirley Park

Shirley Park is a Green Flag Award park in the centre of Shirley, close to the town centre and Shirley train station, and managed by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. It is free to enter and open around the clock. The park underwent major improvement works and reopened in June 2014 following around 600,000 pounds of investment, which brought better access, new play equipment, an outdoor gym, community artwork, planting and refurbished tennis courts. Today the large children's play area includes swings, slides, springers and a roundabout, offering play facilities for children of all ages and abilities, and there is a skate park for older children. Sports provision is strong, with a football pitch, a rugby pitch, tennis courts that can be booked free of charge and outdoor table tennis, alongside the outdoor gym equipment. Ornamental gardens and walkways give the park a more formal feel in places, and it hosts events through the summer. Free car parking is available nearby, and bus routes 6, 49 and 76 stop close to the park, with Shirley train station within easy reach. Having been landscaped from former farmland, Shirley Park is now a well-equipped, centrally located green space for families and sports players alike.
