About Queens Park

Queens Park is a large Victorian town park set to the north-west of Bolton town centre. Originally opened as Bolton Park on 24 May 1866 by the Earl of Bradford, it was renamed in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The roughly circular grounds of about 22 acres were laid out by landscape gardener William Henderson, and the River Croal runs through the lower section. Managed by Bolton Council, the park combines heritage features with everyday family facilities. The central terrace is dominated by Grade II listed statues, including monuments to Benjamin Disraeli and John Fielding, alongside a listed cenotaph and bandstand. A major restoration followed a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of around 4.3 million pounds in 2009. For families, the park offers a children's play area, flowerbeds and duck ponds, with a cafe operating from the former entrance lodge that also provides toilet facilities. Additional sports provision includes a bowling green and a football pitch, while a nature trail guides visitors around the grounds. Entry is free.
