About Thorntree Park

Thorntree Park is a well-used neighbourhood green space in the Thorntree area of east Middlesbrough, managed by Middlesbrough Council and holding Green Flag status continuously since 2017. It is designed very much with families and local sport in mind. There are two separate children's play areas, giving plenty of choice for younger and older children, alongside two floodlit kick-about areas that let games carry on into the evening. An informal garden provides a quieter, planted space to sit and relax. The park is also the home ground of Cargo Fleet Junior Football Club, who use the football pitches and pavilion, so weekends often see junior matches taking place. Having two play areas means younger and older children can be catered for separately, while the floodlit kick-about courts and pitches make it a genuine local sports hub as well as a playground. Set on Spencerfield Crescent, the park is open daily from 7:30am to 5pm. Entry is free, making it a handy, no-cost destination for families in the Thorntree and wider east Middlesbrough area looking for somewhere to let off steam close to home.
