About Alexandra Park
Alexandra Park is a small Edwardian park in the east of Ipswich, set between Grove Lane, Kings Avenue and Back Hamlet. The land was formerly part of the Hill House Estate and was purchased by Ipswich Corporation in 1903, with the park named after Alexandra, the wife of Edward VII, and officially opened to the public in June 1904. It is run by Ipswich Borough Council and is free to enter. The park is mainly gently sloping grass, with a bandstand and a children's play area reached from the Grove Lane entrance. The play area has recently been renovated and has lots of low and accessible play equipment, which makes it especially good for little ones. Public toilets are available on site. The open grass is popular for picnics and informal games, and the park hosts the Ipswich May Day Festival, usually on the Sunday closest to 1 May. Compact and welcoming, Alexandra Park makes an easy, free local outing for families with young children in this part of the town.
