About Berry Brow Recreation Ground
Berry Brow Recreation Ground, on Ladyhouse Lane in Berry Brow to the south of Huddersfield, is a community play area and sports ground in the Newsome ward managed by Kirklees Council. The council selected it for investment through its Playable Spaces project, working with the Newsome local area, to refresh the play provision for local families. The scheme refurbishes the existing swings and adds a new cantilever swing, a new see-saw and a new tipi carousel, along with new picnic benches, while the basketball area is being refurbished so there is something for older children too. Alongside the play equipment the recreation ground provides a grass football pitch, used by Berry Brow Amateur Football Club, set in open green space. As a free, open-access neighbourhood recreation ground it offers a straightforward local spot for play and kickabouts rather than destination-park facilities such as a cafe or formal gardens. Families should note that some of the equipment described reflects the council's improvement plans for the site, which were put out for community feedback before the design was finalised.
