About Mousehold Heath
Mousehold Heath is one of Norwich's best-loved open spaces, a sweep of roughly 200 acres of heath, woodland and grassland rising above the city to the north-east. Cared for by the Mousehold Heath Conservators and Norwich City Council, it is a designated Local Nature Reserve and a Green Flag Award site. A designated children's play area sits within the heath, close to the Fountain Ground sports pitch off Gurney Road, where Zak's restaurant and a seasonal ice-cream concession provide refreshments. The council's byelaws set aside the play area for children under 14 and their carers. Beyond the play area, families can explore miles of informal paths through birch and oak woodland, take in long views across the city, or try the pitch and putt and footgolf course when it is open. Parking is available at several access points around the heath, and the grounds are open at all times, all year round and free to enter. Mousehold's mix of wild space and managed facilities makes it a flexible day out for all ages.
