About Haslam Park
Haslam Park is a historic municipal park on the north-west side of Preston, in the Ashton-on-Ribble area, managed by Preston City Council and free to enter. It owes its existence to the philanthropy of the Haslam family, whose cotton-weaving wealth paid for the land: Mary Haslam gifted around 46 hectares to Preston Corporation in memory of her father, and the park formally opened in 1912 with tree-lined avenues, lakes, gardens, bowling greens, a bandstand and children's recreation areas. The roughly 30-hectare site today is crossed by Savick Brook and combines a pond, a formal lime avenue, bowling greens, tennis courts, a nature reserve and children's play areas. Families come for the play areas and the multi-use games area, with plenty of open space, paths and water to explore alongside. Practical facilities include on-site car parking and public toilets, plus a picnic area, making it an easy choice for a longer visit. Some of the park's older attractions, such as the 1930s aviary and the open-air swimming baths opened in 1932, have long since gone, but Haslam Park remains a well-used green space for play, sport and quiet walks in this part of Preston.
