About Moor Park
Moor Park is Preston's oldest and largest park, a Grade II* listed Victorian landscape of around 40 hectares (100 acres) north of the city centre, managed by Preston City Council. Garstang Road (the A6) runs along its western edge, with Blackpool Road to the north and Deepdale Road to the east. It is free to enter and is recognised as the city's major events park, able to host large-scale activities. For families there are two children's play areas, while older children and teenagers are well served by the skate park and outdoor gym. The park is a genuine sporting hub, with football pitches, basketball courts and bowling greens, plus a multi-use games area near the observatory where the tennis courts are free and open at all times. Other features include The Serpentine lake and the historic Jeremiah Horrocks Observatory, built in 1927 and now run by the University of Central Lancashire. Preston City Council has secured funding for a new destination play area at Moor Park, with designs during 2026/27 and construction planned for 2027/28, alongside wider path, furniture and safety improvements. With its scale, sport and open space, Moor Park works for everything from a quick play session to a full day out.
