About Silksworth Lakeside Park
Silksworth Lakeside Park was recreated in the early 1980s on the site of a former colliery and offers one of the most tranquil man-made landscapes in Sunderland. Managed by Sunderland City Council, the park combines two lakes and lakeside walkways with a cluster of sports and play facilities that make it a popular destination for families. Children head for the large children's play area located near the leisure centre, while older visitors can use the skate park, a running track and football courts. The adjoining Silksworth Sports Complex includes an artificial ski slope that gives the park its distinctive profile. Facilities at the sports complex and ski slope include toilets, accessible toilets and baby changing, and parking is free for all users with signs directing drivers toward the ski slope; there are also three Blue Badge parking bays. The site is wheelchair and pushchair friendly, and the gentle lakeside circuit is a favourite with walkers and dog walkers. Reached off Silksworth Lane in New Silksworth, the park is free to enter and open daily, combining a quiet lakeside setting with plenty for active families to do, from a game on the courts to a session in the play area or a loop of the lakes.
