About Clowes Park Playground
Clowes Park, on New Hall Road in Broughton Park, is a surviving fragment of the historic Broughton Old Hall estate — an ornamental park that once had a large lake and boat house. A lake with railed viewing areas remains at its centre, where considerate fishing has been permitted for local residents for over a century, and the park is managed by Salford City Council with 24-hour pedestrian access. The children's play area, in the north of the park, was fully refurbished in autumn 2024 and now has equipment for both younger and older children — a rotating net climber, twin balance beams, single-point and Viking swings, a rotating swing, a see-saw, a springy and a play car. The park also holds a Life for a Life memorial forest, opened in 2016 within the estate's original walled garden, plus a community orchard and woodland.
