About Burslem Park
Burslem Park is a Grade II* listed Victorian park in the heart of Burslem, designed by the noted landscape architect Thomas H. Mawson and opened in 1894. Managed by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the nine-hectare park underwent a major restoration programme between 2005 and 2012 and holds a Green Flag Award, recognising it among the country's best parks. It combines formal Victorian features - including ornamental gardens, circular fountains, a terracotta balustrade and a striking Pulhamite rockery with an ornamental cascade - with an informal lake and tree-lined grass areas crossed by a network of paths. For families, the park has a children's play area with play equipment, alongside tennis courts, a multi-sports court and skate facilities where children can play basketball, football or tennis and skaters can enjoy the quarter pipe and grinding obstacles. A cast-iron bandstand, erected in 2008 to replace one lost to fire, hosts events, and a Tudor Revival pavilion houses a volunteer-run cafe serving refreshments. There are toilets on site with baby-changing facilities, and the park offers full disabled access. Dogs are welcome across the park but not inside the children's play area. Entry is free and the park is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, making it a well-loved community green space.
