About Albert Park Playground
Albert Park is an important piece of green space in Broughton, Salford, first opened in 1877 and named after Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria. Covering roughly six hectares between Great Clowes Street, Great Cheetham Street, Grecian Street and Vavasour Street, it was laid out by Henry Moore, head gardener at nearby Peel Park, in the classic Victorian style — by 1895 it even had two central lakes with islands, later filled in during the late 1940s. Managed by Salford City Council with 24-hour pedestrian access, today it offers a children's play area alongside a multi-use games area, a bowling green, tennis courts, an all-weather astro-turf pitch, an outdoor gym, changing rooms, toilets and car parking.
