About West Park
West Park is one of Wolverhampton's best-loved green spaces, a 17-hectare (42-acre) Victorian park laid out on the site of the old racecourse and opened on 6 June 1881. Managed by City of Wolverhampton Council, it sits within a ten-minute walk of the city centre in the Whitmore Reans area. The park is beautifully landscaped around a central lake with an island, and families come for its large children's play area, which caters for toddlers, juniors and older children alike. The equipment includes cradle swings, a small trampoline, springy animals, see-saws, a roundabout, climbing walls, multi-play units, giant slides and pendulum swings. During the warmer months there is also a splash pad for water play. Beyond the playground, visitors will find football pitches, tennis courts and a bowling green in Park Crescent, while the chalet tearooms offer refreshments. A programme of ranger events runs through the year. With its historic bandstand, formal planting and wide open lawns, West Park combines heritage charm with plenty for children to enjoy.
