About War Memorial Park
War Memorial Park is Coventry's flagship city park, opened in July 1921 as the city's tribute to local soldiers who died in the First World War. Covering around 48.5 hectares (120 acres) off Kenilworth Road, it is managed by Coventry City Council and is free to enter. The park is split into a formal area around the war memorial and sensory garden, and larger open sports and recreation grounds. For families there are children's play areas including an under-8s play area, plus a popular Splash 'n' Play water play zone that runs in warmer months and a skateboard area. Sports provision is extensive, with football pitches, tennis courts, bowling greens, a pitch-and-putt/crazy golf course and an outdoor fitness trail. The park also has an aviary, a visitor centre and cafe facilities, and hosts a well-attended weekly parkrun and junior parkrun. Paths run throughout the park and there is on-site parking (charges apply), with accessible toilets near the visitor centre. Mature trees, wide lawns and the formal memorial gardens make it a green focal point close to the city centre and University of Warwick.
