About Lenton Recreation Ground

Lenton Recreation Ground is a historic neighbourhood park on Church Street in Lenton, on the west side of Nottingham, managed by Nottingham City Council. It holds a notable place in the city's history as Nottingham's first purpose-laid-out recreation ground, opened in 1887. Today it remains a well-used local green space of open grass, mature trees and footpaths, with a tree trail taking in around 350 trees across the site. For families the main feature is the children's playground, which Nottingham City Council upgraded in 2025 under a 60,000 pound improvement contract, refreshing the play equipment for local children. The park also has croquet lawns and is an easy, pleasant stop for a walk or a picnic close to the University of Nottingham and the Queen's Medical Centre. With its combination of heritage, greenery and a recently improved play area, Lenton Recreation Ground is a convenient choice for families in Lenton and the surrounding west-Nottingham neighbourhoods, and vehicle access is available from the Church Street entrance.
